The Cost

The Armenian Genocide was a huge genocide that lead to a loss of many Armenian people's lives. The genocide had resulted in an estimated 600,000 to 1.5 million deaths (Armenian). It also resulted in the deportation of the remaining 1.75 to 2 million Armenians who lived in the Ottoman Empire (Armenian). As Henry Morgenthau says, "I am confident that the whole history of the human race contains no such horrible episode as this. The great massacres and persecutions of the past seem almost insignificant when compared with the sufferings of the Armenian race in 1915" (Brief History). To him, the Armenian Genocide was the worst in history and no one should go through what the Armenians went through and no other persecution compared to this one. After a massacre, someone said, "...in the end, almost 30,000 Armenians were killed and nearly half the city destroyed" (Brief History). This just shows you how bad the massacres and the entire genocide were. The Armenians didnot have it easy at all for many years.
